Zaporizhia-based PJSC Motor Sich plans to start shipments of the AI-450S serial aircraft engines for the European DA-50 jet aircraft to Austria in 2018.
A framework agreement with Austrian-based Diamond Aircraft Industries for the supply of 400 AI-450S engines for the DA-50 in 2018-2023 was signed by the parties during the 52nd International Paris Air Show Le Bourget 2017, the company’s management told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.
The air show started on June 19 and will end on June 25.
«A firm contract with the Austrian side is planned to be signed before the end of the year,» the source said.
The AI-450S is a turboprop engine designed by Ivchenko-Progress and manufactured by Motor Sich. It is a two-shaft design with one gas generator shaft and one free turbine shaft. The 450 hp AI-450S is used on the Diamond DA50-JP7 and Diamond Dart 450 and the 630 hp AI-450S-2 is used on the Evektor EV-55.
The Ukrainian-made fourth-generation AI-450S weighing 170 kg should replace the German diesel engine Teledyne Continental TSIOF-550J in the DA-50. The aircraft is widely used for training pilots and is engaged in humanitarian missions. It is marketed in the EU countries, the United States, and China. A successful demonstration flight of the DA50-JP7 with the Ukrainian AI-450S engine took place in Vienna in January 2015.
PJSC Motor Sich is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of engines for aircraft, as well as industrial gas turbine equipment. It ships commodities to more than 100 countries.
